Writing Workshops presented by Local Author Sandra Dutton
Writing a Novel for Children:
Saturday – May 19th @ 10:30am (Catskill Public Library)
A workshop on writing the middle grade novel. Plot, character, getting ideas, and how to submit work for publication will be covered. Students will discover their own ideas through discussion and writing exercises. Sandra will share her own process, how she uses her own interests and background as a springboard.
Whether you’re a novice or a published writer, if you would like to know more about writing fiction for children, this workshop is for you.
Writing and Illustrating Picture Books for Children:
Saturday – May 26th @ 10:30am (Palenville Public Library)
What makes a good picture book text? How do you create a dummy? What’s the best size for a picture book idea? With a combination of discussion and hands-on activities, students will learn how to create their own picture book dummies. Page layout, sketching, rhythm, pacing, and text placement will be discussed. Students will also learn how to submit their work for publication.
Even if you’re only interested in writing a picture book, this is a good workshop for you. It helps to know what an editor looks for, and how an illustrator will be working.
